After Ahmadabad plane Crash, IndiGo Flight Sends 'Mayday' in Fuel Emergency

An IndiGo flight (6E-6764) from Guwahati to Chennai made an emergency landing in Bengaluru on June 19, 2025, after the pilot issued a "mayday" distress call due to low fuel. The flight, carrying 168 passengers, attempted to land in Chennai around 7:45 PM but was diverted due to airport congestion.

The pilot made the emergency call about 35 minutes before landing at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport, where the plane touched down safely at 8:15 PM. A passenger reported that the aircraft had taken "a sudden and steep approach" during the attempted Chennai landing, leaving many "on edge".

Both pilots involved in the incident have been de-rostered. The incident occurred shortly after a separate Air India crash in Ahmedabad that killed 270 people.

In a related development the next day, another IndiGo flight headed to Madurai had to return to Chennai after detecting a mid-air technical issue.
